Devin Spencer registers hat trick in 15-12 loss
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse won the faceoff battle early, but Drexel forced turnovers and used a strong interior passing game to defeat the Minutemen, 15-12, Thursday night in the CAA Semifinal Round at Garber Field. UMass exits the tournament with a 10-5 overall record, while Drexel advances to the CAA Championship Game and faces Towson for the league title Sat., May 4.

Matthew Varian led Drexel with six points on three goals and as many assists. Marshal King added five points on three goals and two assists.
Meyers won the game's first seven faceoffs, but a stout defensive effort by Drexel saw the Dragons cause four first quarter turnovers en route to a 5-1 lead through one.
Sophomore attack Chris Connolly leveled the score at one-all with 13 minutes on the clock on a feed from senior close defenseman Isaac Paparo, but from there Drexel potted four consecutive tallies and took a lead it did not relinquish.
Devin Spencer recorded his first goal of the night with 11 minutes, three seconds left in the second quarter; however, the Minutemen were unable to swing the momentum in their direction as Drexel countered with four straight markers for a 9-4 lead at halftime.
UMass narrowed the deficit to as little as three late in the contest, but could not get any closer in overcoming the Dragons' early start. Spencer's final tally of the day brought them within 11-8 of Drexel at the 9:23 mark of the third as UMass sandwiched two series of back-to-back goals around one tally for the Dragons.
Massachusetts again rallied within three of tying in the fourth with back-to-back man-up tallies from Jeff Trainor and Ben Spencer with 10:45 and 10:07 to go, respectively.
