Minutewomen Bow Out Of Atlantic 10 Softball Championship

UMass fell to Fordham 8-2 in the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship at Sortino Field.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team was knocked out of the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship on Friday afternoon at Sortino Field as they fell to top-seeded Fordham 8-2. The Minutewomen finished their season with a 26-22 record and finished second in the A-10 regular season standings to earn the two-seed for the tournament.
Fordham (27-24) jumped ahead early with two runs in both the first and second innings, going ahead 2-0 on a Madie Aughinbaugh two-RBI single in the first while adding two more in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.
A trio of seniors each put together two hits in their final game in a UMass uniform as they started a quick rally to bring home a run in the top of the fourth on three consecutive singles to cut the lead down to three.
Erin Stacevicz started the rally with her first of two hits on a single to the shortstop, giving her hit number 243 in her career as she took over sole possession of second all-time in the UMass record book for career hits. Stacevicz added another hit in the sixth inning to put her at 244 for her career.
Kaitlyn Stavinoha followed Stacevicz's leadoff single in the fourth with a bunt single to set up a Kaycee Carbone RBI single up the middle that brought the score to 4-1. Carbone finished the game with two hits and two RBI, driving home the second and final run on a sacrifice fly to left field in the sixth inning after Stacevicz and Stavinoha once again led off the inning with back-to-back base hits.
The Rams used a two-run home run as part of a three-run fourth inning to go ahead 7-1 after UMass cut the lead down to three and added a final insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to a final 8-2.
Riley Gregoire and Hannah Bunker each added a hit for the Minutewomen as they finished with eight hits as a team on the afternoon.
