Croke, Anderson Pace Women's Lax To 19-8 Win At St. Bonaventure

Croke scores career-best five goals, Brinley Anderson notches career-high four goals in win.
OLEAN, N.Y. - Stephanie Croke and Brinley Anderson combined for nine goals pacing the UMass women's lacrosse team to a 19-8 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletic Complex. Croke notched a career-high five goals, while Anderson tallied a career-best four in the victory.
The win improved UMass to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in Atlantic 10 play to maintain first place in the standings following the third week of league play.
Along with her five goals, Croke added an assist for a game-high six points, while Anderson had three groundballs and a caused turnover. The offense was able to maintain possession throughout the game thanks to Caitlyn Petro's 17 wins in the draw circle which marked a career-best and the second-best single-game mark in school history.Â
Kelly Marra also had a career-high with three goals, while Haley Connaughton (two assists) and Ally Murphy each had two goals as well. Lauren Hiller made 10 saves in net through 56 minutes before Gina Carroll closed out the final five minutes of play.
St. Bonaventure (1-13, 0-6 A-10) was led by three goals and an assist from Ashley Easterday along with two goals and an assist by Destinee Johnson. Savannah Clarke made 19 saves in the loss.
Overall, UMass had a 43-to-25 shot advantage and won 23-of-28 draw controls thanks to Petro's 17.
The Minutewomen led 6-1 midway through the opening half but the Bonnies were able to trim the lead to three goals twice going into the final 10 minutes before intermission. Croke tallied a pair of goals around an Emma Dotsikas tally giving UMass a 10-4 lead at halftime.
UMass pushed the lead to eight at the start of the second half before a three-goal run by the Bonnies closed the game to five. The Minutewomen won the ensuing draw control which led to Anderson's fourth goal of the game and sparked a six-goal run to end the game.
The Minutewomen will return to action next Friday at La Salle (2 PM) before returning home to host Richmond on Sunday, April 14 (1 PM). Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and admission to Garber Field for Sunday's game against the Spiders is free to all.
