| University of Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Preview |
• It's the final regular-season game of 2019 as the UMass women's lacrosse team hosts George Washington at Garber Field. The opening draw is set for 11:45 AM and the game will be streamed on ESPN+. Entering the game with an 8-0 Atlantic 10 record, the Minutewomen will be going for their eighth unbeaten league season in the past nine years.Â
• Prior to Saturday's game, the women's lacrosse program will honor its three senior captains for 2019 - Kiley Anderson, Cassidy Doster and Hannah Palau.
• UMass won the regular-season title last weekend with a 13-12 overtime victory over Richmond to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament hosted next week at George Mason. The Minutewomen will be playing for their 11th overall league championship title which included a run of nine-straight from 2009-2017. All told, UMass has won the A-10 regular-season title 11 times including this year.
• UMass is 17-3 all-time against George Washington having won 14 consecutive meetings. The last loss to the Colonials was 10-7 in McGuirk Stadium in 2007. Last year, the Minutewomen won 21-8 in Washington, D.C., behind five goals from Hannah Burnett, an eight-point (2g, 6a) showing by Holly Turner and a six-point day (3g, 3a) from Kaitlyn Cerasi.Â
• On the year, Cerasi leads UMass with 67 points on 35 goals and 32 assists followed closely by sophomore Haley Connaughton who is posting a career-best 59 points (29g, 30a) and Kiley Anderson (51g, 8a). Anderson is also one of the top draw specialists in the country with a team-best 80 this season. The 2018 A-10 Midfielder of the Year, Stephanie Croke, leads that unit for the Minutewomen once again with 57 points (36 goals, 21 assists), 36 draw controls, 19 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers on the year.
• Anderson's 201 career draw controls are tied for second all-time in UMass history, while her 147 goals are the 6th most. Anderson needs one more draw control to pass former All-American Kelsey McGovern (201 DCs) for second all-time. Cerasi's 97 assists are the 5th-most in program history. Goalie Lauren Hiller's 37 wins are the third most for a career, while her 375 saves rank sixth overall - her 17 saves in the win over Richmond marked the second-most for a single game in program history and were a new career high for the junior.
• Nationally, the Minutewomen rank 4th overall for scoring offense (17.06 goals/game), are 2nd in draw controls per game (18.25) and 3rd in points per game (25.38). Anderson ranks 13th in the NCAA for both goals per game (3.64) and total goals. Cerasi ranks 19th in total points and 22nd in total assists for the year. UMass has one of the top draw specialist duos in the country with Anderson ranking 23rd overall (5.86/game) and Caitlyn Petro just behind at 24th nationally (5.83/game).
• One of the most winningest programs in NCAA women's lacrosse over the last nine years with 155 victories (including this year), UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament in nine of the previous 10 years with the Minutewomen reaching the second round in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, UMass reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1984. Â
• Since 2011, UMass is 76-5 at home between Garber Field and McGuirk Stadium as its home venues. Since moving back to Garber Field in 2016, the Minutewomen are 29-2 in the stadium with the two loses both coming from Boston College.
• In Atlantic 10 play, UMass is 70-1 since 2011. The 61 consecutive wins from the start of the 2011 league schedule until the loss to VCU in 2018 is an NCAA record.
