MANCHESTER, N.H. - After helping University of Massachusetts hockey go 2-0 with a pair of shutouts and eight goals at the NCAA Northeast Regional to secure the program's first-ever Frozen Four appearance, four Minutemen were named to the 2019 NCAA Ice Hockey Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team, headlined by sophomore defenseman Cale Makar who was tabbed the Most Outstanding Player. Forwards Brett Boeing and John Leonard represented UMass, as well, as did freshman goaltender Filip Lindberg.
Makar, one of two defensemen selected to the team, logged an assist against Harvard and a goal against Notre Dame with +3 rating. He led a UMass defense that limited its opponents to just 30 shots in a pair of shutouts.
Brett Boeing (2g, 1a, +4 rating) and John Leonard (2g, 1a, +3 rating) were the only skaters on any of the four teams participating with three points on the weekend. Boeing's two tallies came in the win over Harvard, while Leonard contributed a goal in each game and added an assist against Notre Dame.
Lindberg was recognized after back-to-back shutout victories, stopping 17 shots in the first contest against Harvard and 13 vs. Notre Dame.
The Minutemen will return to action on Thursday, April 11, when the squad will travel to the Frozen Four to face Denver at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
