University of Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Preview |
• After a tough road loss at Harvard on Wednesday, the UMass women's lacrosse team returns to the friendly confines of Garber Field to host Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The opening draw is set for 3 PM and admission is free to all.
• Stephanie Croke and Kaitlyn Cerasi each scored three goals in the 18-12 loss to the Crimson. Led by 12 draw controls from Kiley Anderson, UMass controlled the draw circle for much of the game, but could not translate the advantage into goals. The Minutewomen were limited to just three goals in the second half after Harvard took a 10-9 lead into intermission.
• All-time, UMass leads the series with the Huskies 10-3 including last year's 12-11 win in Storrs thanks to Holly Turner's game-winning goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation. The Minutewomen have six consecutive wins in the series including three of the last four games that have been decided by one goal.
• Cerasi leads UMass with 13 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists. Anderson leads the Minutewomen with 11 goals in the first three games, while also averaging just over six draw controls per outing.
• One of the most winningest programs in NCAA women's lacrosse over the last nine years with 143 victories (including this year), UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament in nine of the previous 10 years with the Minutewomen reaching the second round in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, UMass reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1984.
• Since 2011, UMass is 68-5 at home between Garber Field and McGuirk Stadium as its home venues. Since moving back to Garber Field in 2016, the Minutewomen are 22-2 in the stadium with the two loses both coming from Boston College.
