UMass' Kiefiuk Chosen As Hockey East Rookie Of The Week

The Macomb, Michigan native scored twice in the Minutemen’s come-from-behind win at Merrimack last weekend.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey freshman forward Cal Kiefiuk has been tabbed the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor, the first of Kiefiuk's career, marks the third time this season a member of the Minutemen has garnered a weekly award from Hockey East.
Kiefiuk posted his first career multi-goal game, scoring twice in UMass' 3-2 win on the road at Merrimack on Saturday that capped a three-point weekend for the Minutemen against the Warriors.
Kiefiuk's first goal of the contest put UMass on the board and cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the second period. The Macomb, Michigan native later came up with the game-winner with less than a minute to go in regulation as the Minutemen completed the comeback from down 2-0 and came away with the victory.
Through 12 games this season, Kiefiuk currently has seven points to his credit on five goals and two assists and is the leading goal scorer in UMass' freshman class to date.
The Minutemen will be back in action on Friday, November 29, when the squad will open a home-and-home with Quinnipiac at 7:30 p.m. in Hamden, Connecticut.
