Women’s Lacrosse Coach Angela McMahon Receives Three-Year Contract Extension
August 27, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
McMahon is the winningest head coach in UMass women’s lacrosse program history.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced today a three-year contract extension for women's lacrosse head coach Angela McMahon. The all-time winningest coach in program history, McMahon's contract will now run through June 14, 2023.
"We have reached unprecedented heights in women's lacrosse under Angela McMahon so this extension is designed to continue our impressive trajectory and reward Angela for her commitment to excellence," said Bamford. "I look forward to working with Angela to continue our investment in a nationally-recognized women's lacrosse program."
McMahon has turned the women's lacrosse program into a perennial power bolstering the Minutewomen to NCAA appearances in seven of the past eight years. The six-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year has been a transformational leader for the program which had one previous Atlantic 10 title (2001) since the league's first sponsorship of the sport in 1999.
In her eight seasons with UMass, the Minutewomen have posted a 142-23 overall record and a 61-1 mark in the Atlantic 10. The 61 wins came consecutively over that span and are an NCAA record for longest league win streak in women's lacrosse history. The program's 142 wins in that stretch are the second-most for any program nationally behind Maryland.
Along with the postseason league titles, McMahon's squads have advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round three times and reached the Elite Eight in 2016 – the farthest the team had gone in the NCAA Tournament since 1984.
Overall, McMahon stands 161-52 (.759) in 11 years as a head coach which includes her time at UMass, Connecticut, and Bentley.
