Three UMass Softball Alumnae Competing In International Cup

IRVINE, Calif. – Three University of Massachusetts softball alumnae are competing at the USA Softball International Cup from July 9-15 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif. Nearly 50 games will be played at the inaugural competition over the week in a tournament that features seven of the top-10 ranked teams in the world.
Jena Cozza and Quianna Diaz-Patterson are competing for No. 6 Puerto Rico in the tournament, who picked up a 5-0 win over China in the tournament opener on July 9. Cozza and Diaz-Patterson both posted multi-hit games in their first contest as they each finished with a pair of base hits while Cozza drove in two runs with a second-inning single to left field. Puerto Rico will take on USA Red on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. ET on July 13.
Sara Plourde and No. 3 Canada opened up the tournament with a pair of wins yesterday while the 2012 graduate tossed 2.2 innings with a strikeout in relief as her squad rallied back from down 2-0 to defeat Venezuela with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Canada will play USA Blue on ESPN July 12 at 7 p.m. ET with all games being streamed through USA Softball.
Competition at the USA Softball International Cup continues this evening as Cozza and Diaz-Patterson play their third game of the tournament against Peru at 5 p.m. ET while Plourde and Canada takes on Colombia at 7:30 p.m. ET.
