Cozza, Oliver and Carbone Tabbed NFCA All-Region

The trio earned the accolades after helping lead the Minutewomen to a perfect record in Atlantic 10 play.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team picked up three National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region awards as Jena Cozza, Kiara Oliver and Kaycee Carbone were selected to the teams as announced by the NFCA on Thursday.
Cozza (Wantagh, N.Y.) earned NFCA First-Team All-Region honors for the second time in her career after breaking the UMass single season program records in four offensive categories, including slugging percentage and on-base percentage. The Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honoree and A-10 First-Team All-Conference selection wrapped up the regular-season ranked in the top-three nationally in batting average, on-base percentage, runs per game and slugging percentage. The senior posted 22 multi-hit games with 16 multi-RBI performances on her way to finishing her career at UMass as the program leader in on-base percentage and hit-by-pitches.
Oliver (North Kingstown, R.I.) was named NFCA Second-Team All-Region after leading the A-10 in strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings during her freshman campaign. The A-10 Pitcher of the Year and first-team all-conference pick posted three games with 10 or more strikeouts to go along with 13 performances of seven or more. Oliver finished the regular-season ranked in the top-75 nationally in ERA, hits allowed per seven innings, strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings as her 173 strikeouts ranked 15th most in a single-season at UMass.
Carbone (Hudson, N.H.) earned NFCA Second-Team All-Region honors after racking up 47 RBI during her junior campaign to rank fifth-most all-time in a single season at UMass. The A-10 Second-Team All-Conference selection ranked second on the team in multi-RBI performances, driving in three or more runs in seven games. The outfielder homered twice in non-conference tournament play against Notre Dame on her way to posting multi-hit performances in six straight games, racking up 16 RBI during the span.
The Minutewomen wrapped up their 2018 season with the most wins in a single season since 2012 on their way to winning the A-10 regular season crown behind 21 league wins, tying the conference record for most in a single season.
