Cozza And Bunker Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Honors

Cozza was named Player of the Week while Bunker earned her first Rookie of the Week honor.

AMHERST, Mass. Senior infielder Jena Cozza was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week while freshman designated player Hannah Bunker earned Rookie of the Week honors after the Minutewomen swept George Washington over the weekend to move to 6-0 in league play.
 
Cozza (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the UMass offense with seven RBI to go along with a 1.000 slugging-percentage and two home runs, hitting her first long ball to leadoff the eighth inning and put the Minutewomen ahead of George Washington 5-4 in an eventual 7-4 game one win. The senior posted a .416 average at the plate with two multi-hit performances, including a 3-of-4 showing in game one before capping off the weekend with a pair of hits in game three while scoring three runs. Cozza hit her second home run of the weekend in her final at-bat of the series, hitting a grand slam that moved her into a tie for third on the UMass career home runs list with her 32nd.
 
On the season, Cozza owns a team-leading .488 batting average while also leading the Minutewomen in eight other offensive categories. Among national leaders, Cozza ranks third in on-base percentage (.613), runs per game (1.37) and slugging-percentage (1.025) and ranks fifth in batting average and seventh in RBI per game.
 
Bunker (Waterford, Mich.) recorded at least a hit, a RBI and a run scored in all three UMass wins over GW, beginning the series with a two-hit performance in game one where the freshman drove in the seventh and final run in the extra-inning win. The designated player added a RBI and two runs scored in game two while earning a pair of free passes as she finished the weekend with a .615 on-base percentage and a .444 batting average. She capped off the weekend with three RBI in game three, driving in a pair on a RBI single in the midst of an eight-run fifth inning for the Minutewomen.
 
Through her first 27 collegiate games, Bunker owns a .402 on-base percentage while earning a team-high 16 walks to go along with 16 runs scored and 13 RBI.
 
UMass returns home on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Sortino Field against UAlbany scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. before getting back into A-10 play on Saturday at home against Saint Joseph's.
