AMHERST, Mass. - After being on the road for the last six games, the UMass women's lacrosse team returns home on Thursday afternoon to host Harvard at Garber Field. The opening draw is set for 3:30 PM and will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. NOTE: The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night, but was moved due to impending inclement weather.
The Minutewomen are coming off a 11-10 double-overtime loss to No. 23 Cornell last Saturday at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters' Tierney Field. After trailing early, UMass (4-3) battled back to force a tie in regulation and then held the Big Red in check during the first overtime session. Hannah Burnett tallied three goals and an assist to lead the Minutewomen, while Lauren Hiller made 11 saves in goal.
Harvard enters the year with a 3-3 overall record after falling to Syracuse 20-13 last Friday at Tierney Field.
UMass continues to be led offensively this year by Holly Turner who has 30 points on 17 goals and a team-best 13 assists. Burnett is the team leader in goals with 22 through seven games. Kaitlyn Cerasi (21 points), Kiley Anderson (17 points), Stephanie Croke (14 points), and Cassidy Doster (10 points) round out the double-figure scorers for the Minutewomen this season.
Anderson also leads the team in draw controls (30), while Kasey Keane has had a breakout year defensively with a team-best 29 groundballs and 20 caused turnovers.
Hiller is the goalie of record for UMass with a 0.424 save percentage while averaging just over nine saves a game.
The Minutewomen will play at home for just the second time this season after opening the year with a 17-13 win over Dartmouth. UMass has won eight consecutive home games at Garber Field and 30 of the last 31 home contests.
Last season, UMass picked up a 16-9 win against the Crimson at Harvard Stadium thanks in part to an early four-goal run. Burnett led the Minutewomen with four goals while Turner had two goals and four assists.
The match-up will feature the return of UMass All-American and former assistant coach Kelsey McGovern who joined the Crimson staff last summer as an assistant coach. McGovern spent a year as an assistant coach with her alma mater after serving two seasons at Bryant. As a player for the Minutewomen, the Acton, Mass., native helped UMass win four straight A-10 titles, was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection, was an IWLCA Third Team All-American, and set then program records in career draw controls (201) and single-season draws (110).
Wednesday's contest will mark the final non-conference game of the year. UMass will then have a week off until starting Atlantic 10 play against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 29 (Noon). That game will be streamed live on the A-10 Digital Network.
