Men’s Soccer Qualifies For Fourth Straight Atlantic 10 Tournament

October 31, 2018 | Men's Soccer

UMass will face No. 1-seed VCU in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Richmond, Va.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team will make their fourth consecutive trip to the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship as the No. 8-seed after securing their spot on the final day of league play with a 3-1 win on the road at George Washington. The Minutemen (7-8-2 Overall, 3-5-0 Atlantic 10) will face No. 1-seed VCU in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in Richmond, Va.

The Minutemen headed into the night needing three results in five A-10 contests to go their way to force a three-way tie for eighth in the league between UMass, Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure with nine points each. Saint Joseph's wild 3-3 draw against Saint Louis in double overtime at home earned the Hawks a point to turn a two-way tiebreak between UMass and St. Bonaventure into a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in which UMass earned the nod over the Hawks based on records against opponents at the top of the league table.

The Atlantic 10 semifinals are slated for Friday, Nov. 9 hosted by Saint Louis with the league championship scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
