Minutemen Finish Second At Dartmouth, Win Four Events On Final Day

Luke Gordon won the 100 Breaststroke as UMass won four events on the final day of competition.
HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team won four events on the final day of the Tate Ramsden Invitational at Dartmouth College on their way to finishing second with 835.5 points while Dartmouth won the meet with 878.5 points.

The Minutemen opened up day two with their third relay win of the weekend, this in the 200 Free Relay as Owen Wright, Kyle Stefanides, Kellen Gray and Ryan Pedrick combined to record a time of 1:25.04 on their way to finishing first. Wright, Pedrick and Stefanides along with Chris DiGiacomo wrapped up weekend competition with a time of 3:06.42 in the 400 Free Relay to take second.

Luke Gordon added a win and a runner-up finish on the day, beginning with a top swim of 57.42 in the 100 Breast while Ben Gryski and Stefanides finished in third and fourth to earn 43 points for the Minutemen. Gordon and Gryski added two top-five finishes in the 200 Breast later in the day as Gordon posted the second fastest time of 2:06.80.

Oliver Wyeth picked up a win in the 100 Back as UMass grabbed 67 points in the event with six swimmers in finishing in the top seven spots. Wyeth's top time of 50.46 led the way while DiGiacomo finished as the runner-up and Seamus Trzewik-Quinn took fourth. DiGiacomo went on to finish second in the 200 Back later in the meet with a swim of 1:52.29 to go along with Wyeth's third-place finish in the event to lead three top-five finishers.

Wright recorded two top-two finishes in a pair of Freestyle races, beginning with a runner-up finish in the 200 Free to lead the way for four top-eight finishers for UMass before going on to win the 100 Free with a swim of 46.51.

Harry Ortof finished second with a swim of 16:16.03 in the 1,650 Free while Tyler Pidde came in third with a time of 16:31.72.

Casey Ransford finished third in both the 100 Fly and 200 Fly, leading the way for the Minutemen with a time of 52.12 in the 200 Fly while six finished in the top-10.

Trent Kindvall earned a score of 285.67 in the 1-Meter Dive to finish third in the event and lead all UMass divers on the day.

The Minutemen will return to their home pool at the Joseph R. Rogers Pool next weekend for Senior Day as they are set to take on Fordham in the Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m.
