AMHERST, Mass. - All eyes turn to Geneva, Ohio, as the UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to the Atlantic 10 Championships hosted once again at the SPIRE Institute. The league championship meet will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and run through Saturday, Feb. 18 with each day being streamed live for free on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
The men's swimming and diving program will be competing for its 17th Atlantic 10 title - the most of any team in the Atlantic 10 and the most titles for any league sport by one school.
The Minutewomen will look to improve on a fourth-place finish a year ago after placing second in 2013 and 2015 and third in 2014.
Overall, the Minutemen have 39 individual performances this year ranked among the league's top-16 in each event of the championships. The men's team also looks to defend its 200 and 800 free relay titles while Trent Kindvall looks to defend his back-to-back titles on the three-meter board.
The women's swimming and diving team holds 28 individual performances in the league's top-16 this year including four in the top-7 of the three-meter dive. Meriza Werenski looks to defend her title from last season in the 200 IM as does Emma Roush who has won the one-meter dive the last two years.
Wednesday's events will begin at 1 p.m. with the prelims for the women's one-meter dive. The evening session will begin at 5 p.m. with the men's and women's 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle events and the finals of the one-meter dive. Preliminary sessions on Thursday through Saturday will begin at 10:30 a.m. each day with the finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. each night.
