First Half Helps Army West Point To Win Over Men’s Lacrosse

HIGHLIGHTS
FIRST QUARTER
Army scored the opening six goals of the game with two each for Matthew Donovan, Cole Johnson and David Symmes. Johnson and Donovan connected once apiece in the first quarter, including Donovan's with only 10 seconds to go in the frame.
SECOND QUARTER
Symmes opened the second with his strike at the 13:29 mark of the second. Donovan (11:09) and Johnson (8:12) followed before Symmes added his second with 5:43 to play in the half. Gianni Bianchin put Massachusetts on the scoreboard with 3:14 left in the half on a feed from Jeffrey Trainor. It marked Trainor's first collegiate point.
THIRD QUARTER
Gunnar Miller and Ted Flesener scored for Army as the Black Knights extended their advantage to 8-1 by the end of the third quarter. Glesener's score came during a man-advantage attempt, Army's lone conversion in three tries with an extra man.
FOURTH QUARTER
Dan Muller found the back of the Garber Field net for his first goal of the season and made it 8-2 Army with 3:27 to go in the game. However, the Black Knights responded following the next faceoff as Nate Jones connected 12 seconds later.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Isaac Paparo, Jeffrey Trainor and Luc Valenza each caused a pair of turnovers. Valenza did so in his first start on close defense, during which he also had a team-high and personal best of four groundballs.
- Gianni Bianchin earned the first goal of the season for the Minutemen.
- Jeffrey Trainor assisted on Gianni Bianchin's score. His assist on with 3:14 to go in the second quarter marked Trainor's first collegiate point.
- Dan Muller scored his first goal of the season through his lone on-target shot of the contest.
- D.J. Smith had 12 saves in goal – a career high for the senior goalkeeper. He split up his saves with three in the first quarter, two in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth.
