Men’s Soccer Advances To A-10 Semifinals With Shutout Win Over Saint Louis

UMass advances to the semifinals for the first time since 2008.
AMHERST, MASS. – The No. 25-ranked University of Massachusetts men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 shutout win over Saint Louis in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2008. The top-seeded Minutemen (13-3-3 Overall) will take on No. 5-seed Fordham on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.
Connor O'Dwyer provided the lone goal of the afternoon to put the Minutemen ahead of Saint Louis (7-9-1 Overall) in the 31st minute off a corner kick from Alex DeSantis. DeSantis sent his corner kick into the box to O'Dwyer, who headed it into the far post for his second goal of the season.
The best chance for Saint Louis came early in the contest as Moussa Diarra fired a shot at net that hit the crossbar and bounced out of bounds for a UMass goal kick. Anthony Brown and Patrick Wilkinson attempted two shots apiece while Quayyum Murana and Leo Novaes put the two shots on net for the Billikens.
Bardia Asefnia had three saves for the Minutemen on 12 shots faced while Billiken goalkeeper Sascha Otte picked up one save on nine UMass attempts.
The winner of the semifinal match between UMass and Fordham will play the winner between No. 2 VCU and No. 6-seed Rhode Island on Sunday, Nov. 12 at noon.
