UMass hosts Saints at Mullins Center in final exhibition matchup
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's basketball will wrap up the exhibition schedule on Mon., Nov. 6, hosting Flagler College at the Mullins Center in a 7 p.m. rendezvous. Fans can catch the game free of charge as no tickets are required for exhibition contests.
Fans attending the game are reminded that new security measures have been implemented at the Mullins Center. Details regarding these new measures as well as a list of items prohibited in the arena can be found by clicking here.
Massachusetts enters Monday night on the heels of a 79-66 win over Kutztown to open the exhibition slate. Junior Genesis Rivera had a double-double (24 points, 10 rebounds), while freshman Bre-Hampton Bey drained 16 of her own. A resilient second half effort by UMass helped the Minutewomen claw back from a deficit of 15 in the third quarter, retaking the lead early in the final stanza and never looking back after Hailey Leidel drained a pair of free throws.
Located in St. Augustine, Florida, Flagler went 5-21 a year ago with a 3-16 record in the Peach Belt Conference. Last season, the Saints averaged an even 65 points per game in shooting 39.1 percent from the floor. In spite of this, the team surrendered 73.7 points on a night-to-night basis. Erika Lang-Montgomery, a four-year letter winner at Florida and 1995 alumna, enters her ninth season at the helm of Flagler.
On an individual level, senior Bri Roberts leads all Saints returners having put down 14.2 points per game in her junior campaign, however the squad heads into the season without the services of their top rebounder, Tiffany Hodge.
Once through Monday's matchup with Flagler, Massachusetts will set its sights on the 2017-18 regular season, which begins on Fri., Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m. when the Minutewomen host Maine-Fort Kent at the Mullins Center.
