Smith Named ECAC Rookie Of The Year, DeSantis On First-Team

Smith led the Minutemen this season in goals, assists and points while DeSantis earned first-team honors.
AMHERST, Mass. – Freshman Davis Smith of the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year as announced by ECAC on Wednesday morning. Senior Alex DeSantis was named to the ECAC First-Team after ranking second on the team in various statistical categories.
Smith (Amherst, Mass.) posted team-leading numbers in goals with 10, assists with seven and points with 27 while helping UMass to the Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament crowns on their way to qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. The A-10 Rookie of the Year and first-team all-league honoree finished his first collegiate season tied for second-most in the league in goals along with third in assists and second in points.
DeSantis (Belchertown, Mass.) earned first-team honors after helping UMass secure both the first outright regular-season title and tournament championship in the A-10 in the same season since Rutgers in 1991. The midfielder was both an Atlantic 10 First-Team All-Conference and all-academic honoree after ranking second on the team in goals with nine, assists with six and points with 24.
