Women’s Swimming And Diving Defeats Vermont 156-144 At Home

Four Minutewomen swimmers won two individual events apiece while the divers swept the top-three spots
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving built an early lead and held on as they defeated Vermont 156-144 on Sunday afternoon in Rogers Pool behind 11 individual wins. The Minutewomen opened the day by winning the opening relay and the following two events.
Maddie Biron, Ansley Baker, Rachel Grant and Mariam Labib put together the top swim in the 200 Medley Relay of 1:48.08 to set the tone and help build a 71-60 lead before the first diving events.
A pair of UMass freshman in Labib and Kelly Malyszka both won two individual events for the Minutewomen, beginning with Malyszka's winning swim of 10:27.16 in the 1000 Free before she went on to take first in the 500 Free. Labib won a close race in the 200 Free, posting a swim of 1:54.52 to win by one one-hundredth of a second before capping her day off with a win in the 50 Free and a runner-up swim in the 100 Free.
Ansley Baker won two individual events of her own for UMass, first with the top swim of 51.48 in the 100 Free. Baker went on to post the top time in the 100 Breast with a swim of 1:05.08.
Stephanie Judge won both butterfly races on the afternoon, taking the 200 Fly with a time of 2:08.84 and the 100 Fly with a swim of 58.65.
The Minutewomen divers had another successful showing as they swept both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter dives on the day as Emma Roush won both events for the Minutewomen. Roush took first in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 300.45 after posting the top score of 318.35 in the 3-Meter Dive. Maja Boric finished as the runner-up in both dives while Katie Polk took third-place in each.
UMass will return to Rogers Pool on Sat., Nov. 4 to take on Boston University at 1 p.m.
