Minutemen looking to build on Saturday's draw against Saint Peter's.
AMHERST, Massachusetts - Following Saturday's 1-1 overtime draw against Saint Peter's to open the home schedule, the UMass men's soccer team faces a quick turnaround as the Minutemen play host to New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. with admission and parking free to all.
The match will be streamed live on the UMass/Atlantic 10 Digital Network with live stats and twitter updates available as well.
The draw against the Peacocks improved the Minutemen to 0-2-1 on the season. Alex DeSantis notched the opening goal of the match in the 19th minute before Saint Peter's equalized in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick. The two sides dug in defensively for the remainder of regulation and neither team found the Golden Goal in overtime.
DeSantis' goal was the first of the year for the Minutemen. Defensively, Jorge Becerra has started every match in goal with a 1.86 goals-against-average and a 0.769 save percentage. The match also featured the debut of sophomore centerback Konrad Gorich. The Munich, Germany, native missed the first two matches of the year due to injury, but played 91 of 110 minutes on Saturday.
New Hampshire won last year's meeting 1-0 in Durham with a A.J. Albers goal in the 55th minute.
The Wildcats enter Tuesday's match with a 3-0 record including a 2-1 win over Rhode Island on Saturday night. Six different UNH players have tallied goals this year with Chris Arling leading the pack having two. Andrew Pesci has started all three matches in goal with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a 0.667 save percentage. Pesci is aided by the fact that New Hampshire has outshot its opponents 51-to-15 in three games.
Following the early week tilt, the Minutemen will next take to the road heading down the Pike to face Boston University at Nickerson Field. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start on Saturday night.
