Men's Soccer Opens A-10 Play Saturday against Dayton

Minutemen host Flyers at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.

AMHERST, Massachusetts - Coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at Hartford last weekend, the UMass men's soccer team opens Atlantic 10 play on Saturday afternoon as Dayton visits Rudd Field. The match is set for 1 p.m. as part of the weekend's Homecoming festivities.

The Minutemen (2-6-1) have won two of their last three matches with the lone loss in the stretch coming at No. 20 Vermont, 3-2. In those three games, UMass is averaging 2.3 goals per outing after averaging just under a goal in the previous six. 

All told this season, nine different players have tallied goals led by Alex DeSantis and Ty Goncalves who each have two. Goncalves scored the game-winning penalty kick in overtime at Hartford last Saturday. DeSantis leads the team in overall points with 12 on two goals and four assists.

Jorge Becerra is the goalkeeper of record for the Minutemen with a 2.04 goals-against-average and a 0.703 save percentage. 

Dayton enters the weekend with a 3-5-1 overall record following a 1-0 win at Liberty on Tuesday. Rok Taneski and Nick Hagenkord lead the Flyers with three goals and two goals, respectively, while Taneski leads the club in overall points (9). Three different goalies have started for Dayton this season with Federico Barrios having started the last two matches. Barrios posted a 0.90 goals-against-average and a 0.714 save percentage in those games.

UMass will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when the Minutemen host Central Connecticut State at Rudd Field to close out the non-conference schedule. The match is set for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
