Albany Downs Men's Soccer 2-1 with 90th Minute Goal

Great Danes score with 23 seconds left in regulation for win.
AMHERST, Massachusetts - Carlos Clarke scored with 23 seconds remaining in regulation as Albany came from behind to defeat the UMass men's soccer team 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutemen led 1-0 at halftime before the Great Danes were able to find the equalizer and the gamewinner in the second half.
UMass (0-5-1) will return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. as Brown visits Rudd Field. Fans are reminded to arrive to campus early to find parking with a home football game slated for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at McGuirk Stadium. The Minutemen took the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of play on a heavy shot from 20 yards out by Ty Gonsalves. The strike was initially deflected by Albany keeper Danny Vitiello, but had enough power behind it to arc in the air before landing and rolling over the goalline.
Alex DeSantis nearly doubled the score in the 28th minute with a shot that deflected off the post. UMass keeper Jorge Becerra made two of his three saves in the first half to preserve the lead at halftime.
Afonso Pinheiro tied the match in the 63rd minute when he took a feed from Moosah Khanat and evaded a charging Becerra. He was able to fire into the empty net for Albany's first score of the day.
UMass had a pair of shots blocked in the 88th minute before Albany was able to transition possession back to its offensive third. The Great Danes earned a corner kick to start the 90th minute that was deflected out of bounds earning a second corner kick. Daniel Krutzen sent the corner away from the goal to Khanat stationed outside the 18-yard box. He fired a low hard shot towards the left side of goal that Clark was able to redirect with a header for the game-winning goal.
Albany finished the match with a 13-to-8 shot advantage and a 6-to-0 edge in corner kicks.
