AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-1, 195-pound goaltender Ryan Wischow to its recruiting class for 2016-17, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday. Wischow joins defenseman Shane Bear and forward Griff Jeszka as the Minutemen’s third member of the Class of 2020.

“Ryan is a very competitive goaltender who’s proven at every level he can stop a lot of rubber,” said Carvel. “He was a top goaltender in the USHL for Fargo and has good size and control between the pipes. He also handles the puck quite well, which our defensemen will appreciate.”

In 2015-16 with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League (USHL), Wischow saw action in 53 games, a total of 2,827 minutes, and logged a 2.29 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage en route to a record of 24-22-1. He tied for the USHL lead in shutouts with five and posted a 151-minute shutout streak this past season, while ranking fourth in the league in GAA and eighth in save percentage.

After playing four seasons for Ashwaubenon High School in his native Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 2010-14, Wischow spent 2014-15 with the Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and registered a 2.74 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage over 33 contests.
