2016 NEILA Academic All-New England
NEWTON, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse senior Kevin Porzelt was lauded with another academic honor on Thursday as the close defenseman picked up New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England, as announced by the organization. Porzelt recently graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in Finance and was previously honored this year for his work in the classroom on the six-man CAA All-Academic Team.
Porzelt provided a career high 33 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers in 2016, his second year as a starter on close defense. His numbers during 2016 more than doubled those from his first campaign as a starter (2015), during which he posted 14 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.
Porzelt was one of 18 selected to the NCAA Division I NEILA Academic All-New England Team. Those eligible were nominated by head coaches at the Division I, II and III levels and chosen based upon excellence in the classroom and on the field over the course of their respective careers.
