Colleran and Jennings Share UMass Weekly Honor

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts softball sophomore Meg Colleran and baseball senior John Jennings have been selected as the Co-UMass Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wed., Apr. 27, beginning at noon in the Massachusetts Room in the Mullins Center.
Colleran appeared in all five games in the circle for UMass softball last week, going 4-0 with a 0.62 ERA. The sophomore struck out 23 batters in 22.2 innings and allowed only four walks and two earned runs.
Colleran threw her sixth shutout of the season in the series opener at George Washington, where she also tied her career high with eight strikeouts.
Jennings hit a team-best .474 (9-for-19) last week with six RBI, seven runs scored, two home runs and one double to help UMass baseball to a 4-1 week that included a pair of quality regional wins over Connecticut and Harvard and an Atlantic 10 series victory over La Salle. The Newton, Mass., native had multi-hit games in all four of the Minutemen’s wins, going 9-for-16 (.563) at the plate in those contests. Jennings drove in three runs vs. UConn, helping to snap the Huskies’ six-game winning streak and scored four times in the UMass’ series-opening victory over La Salle.
His pair of homers on the week marked his team-high sixth and seventh of the year and he currently leads the Minutemen with a .348 batting average and 24 RBI through 29 games this season.
Guest speakers for this week’s UMass Sports Luncheon are Academic Support/Learning Specialist Casey Stark and Assistant Director of Development for Athletics Jason Germain. A buffet lunch will be served for $14 per-person and parking is available for free behind the Mullins Center.
