CAA Weekly Report (March 21)

RICHMOND, Va. - The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honored a pair of Minutemen with accolades following the UMass men's lacrosse team's 11-9 win at No. 20 Penn State as the conference selected Buddy Carr for CAA Co-Player of the Week and Tom Meyers for Rookie of the Week on Monday. Carr shares his award with Towson's Spencer Parks.

Carr scored three goals, all in the second half, including the eventual game-winner in Happy Valley. UMass clung to a 6-5 lead at halftime and, following the break, Carr promptly bumped the lead to 7-5 with a goal only 1:42 into the third quarter. Carr added an unassisted tally to increase the margin to 9-6 with 2:11 left in the frame when he raced around the cage from X and shoveled in an underhanded shot as he was being checked from behind. His third score came early in the fourth quarter and helped offset a PSU rally as he increase the advantage to 10-7.

Meyers won 16 of the game's 24 faceoffs (66.7 percent) for UMass in his first collegiate game as the No. 1 faceoff specialist after splitting time with Noah Rak and Charlie Schatz over the opening seven games. His 16 faceoffs won and 24 taken marked career highs for Meyers and marked the best single game faceoff percentage for the Minutemen this season. He out-dueled three different PSU faceoff specialists throughout the day and won and/or tied with Penn State for the quarter-by-quarter battle, going 5-7 in the first, 5-6 in the second, 3-6 in the third and 3-5 in the fourth. Meyers did not commit a faceoff violation and had three ground balls.

Carr and Meyers are the third and fourth Minutemen to pick up weekly awards this season. Kevin Porzelt was the Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 23 and Tyler Bogart earned CAA Rookie of the Week on March 14.
