Richmond Tallies Late Goal to Down Women's Soccer 1-0

Spiders score in 75th minute to defeat Minutewomen.
RICHMOND, Virginia - Keaira Clark broke a scoreless deadlock in the 75th minute of play leading Richmond to a 1-0 win over the UMass women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Robins Stadium. The Minutewomen were able to get two shots on target in the final 15 minutes of play, but could not find the equalizer.
The loss drops UMass to 2-6-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improves to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play after the opening weekend. The Minutewomen will return to action next Thursday, Oct. 6 against George Mason and Sunday, Oct. 9 against George Washington. Both games will be at Rudd Field featuring free admission.
Richmond tallied four shots in the first 17 minutes of play, but the UMass defense blocked two and keeper Cassidy Babin made two of her six saves in the match during that opening stretch. The Minutewomen were able to generate a pair of shots and a corner kick in the final 12 minutes of the first half, but the Spiders kept the match scoreless going into halftime.
UMass started the first 20 minutes of the second half placing four shots on frame including one from Megan Burke that glanced off the crossbar in the 66th minute. Nine minutes after Burke's shot, Clark took a feed from Ashley Gross to give Richmond the 1-0 lead.
Erin Doster and Julia Weithofer each managed shots in the final 10 minutes of play, but Richmond keeper Carlie Blessing saved both to preserve the clean sheet and finish the match with five saves total.
Overall, Richmond held a 15-to-10 advantage in shots with the second half seeing both sides record seven each. The Spiders also held a 4-to-1 edge in corner kicks.
