Garber Field Renovations Update (June 30, 2015)
June 30, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
AMHERST, Mass. - Work continues on Garber Field, the home of the University of Massachusetts men's and women's lacrosse programs as construction at the facility inches closer to completion. A longer field turf will be installed alongside updated fencing. In addition, the banners chronicling the storied history of the men's lacrosse program will be updated to include material from the women's lacrosse team.
Currently, the process of putting in updated fencing is underway. Underground concrete basins are being poured on the North and South endlines to support the fencing. A gravel undercoating has been brought in to cover where the new field turf will eventually be put in.
The field will continue to serve as the home venue for Greg Cannella's men's lacrosse program while the new, wider surface will allow for the return of Angela McMahon's women's lacrosse team to the facility.
The construction project at Garber Field is one of many athletic facility upgrades the University of Massachusetts has invested in recently. The John Francis Kennedy Champions Center for UMass Basketball is currently under construction while the Football Performance Center and Martin & Richard Jacobson Football Press and Skybox Complex were finished less than one year ago. Ground was broken on a new facility for the field hockey program in May 2015 as well while the rowing program received a state-of-the-art boathouse on the Connecticut River in 2013.
