Quianna Diaz-Patterson Named ECAC Division I Softball Player Of The Year
June 10, 2015 | Softball
DANBURY, Conn. - Massachusetts softball standout Quianna Diaz-Patterson added to her impressive senior season by being named the ECAC Division I Softball Player of the Year on Wednesday.
The Amherst, Mass. native bookended her career after being named the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2012. This marks the ninth time a UMass student-athlete has earned either Player or Pitcher of the Year honors from the organization. `Q' joins Danielle Henderson (1998 & 1999), Carly Normandin (2009) and Emily Robustelli (2003) as Player of the Year winners from the Minutewomen. Robustelli was the only other UMass shortstop to collect the honor.
Diaz-Patterson was also named First Team All-Region by the NFCA and First Team All-Conference in the Atlantic 10 last month.
Diaz-Patterson was the team's starting shortstop and set the UMass single-season records with a .504 batting average, .866 slugging pct. and .592 on-base pct. The batting and on-base percentages were also A-10 records. She finished the 2015 softball season ranked third in avg., sixth in on-base pct. and 18th in slugging.
The Amherst, Mass. native led the team with 40 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, 23 walks and five stolen bases. In league play she also paced the conference with a dominating .530 avg., to go along with 19 runs, five doubles and five home runs.
She finished her career ranked third in school history with a .381 avg., fourth in slugging pct. (.603), third in on-base pct. (.467), seventh in runs (143), sixth in hits (212), fourth in doubles (47), eighth in triples (14), sixth in walks (77) and sixth in times hit by pitch (15).
Diaz-Patterson is currently trying out for the Puerto Rico National Team, which will compete at the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif. and the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada this summer. The tryout period ends Friday and the team is expected to be announced shortly thereafter.
The ECAC All-Stars were selected from first team all-conference players and league award winners at schools within the ECAC footprint from the America East, A-10, Atlantic Coast (ACC), Big East, Big South, Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), Ivy League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Northeast Conference and the Patriot League.
