Minuteman Trio Takes Home NEILA All-Region Awards

AMHERST, Mass. - Three members of the 2015 University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program picked up New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association all-region accolades Wednesday, as announced by the organization. Ryan Izzo tallied the top spot at short-stick defensive midfield while Kyle Karaska earned one of the four first team laurels at close defense. Nick Mariano was tabbed to the second team on attack.
Izzo collected 32 groundballs and caused 11 turnovers as a redshirt-senior in 2015. The Walpole, Massachusetts, native previously earned All-NEILA First Team in 2013 and 2014 and finished his UMass career with 115 groundballs to go with 33 caused turnovers. He also added 14 points through 11 goals and three assists during his 59 games played with the Maroon and White, which included 43 starts.
Karaska led the Minuteman close defense with 25 groundballs and 18 caused turnovers as a junior during the 2015 campaign. Karaska has 58 groundballs and 29 caused turnovers to his name entering his senior season and also earned NEILA All-New England during 2014.
Mariano paced the attack as a sophomore in points (42), goals (22) and assists (20) while he also contributed 27 groundballs over 15 games played. An all-region selection and the NEILA Rookie of the Year in 2014, Mariano owns 51 goals and 30 assists through two completed campaigns with the program.
Brown's Dylan Molloy and Lars Tiffany were named the player and coach of the year, respectively. Including this season's trio, head coach Greg Cannella has coached at least three Minutemen to NEILA all-region awards in each of his 21 completed seasons as the program leader.
