November 09, 2015 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts hockey freshman forward Austin Plevy has been named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It marks the second time this season the Langley, British Columbia, native has earned the honor and is the third time this year a member of the Minutemen has received a Hockey East weekly award.
Plevy helped UMass sweep Connecticut with a four-point weekend last weekend, tallying two goals and two assists and was +4 over the Minutemen’s three games last week. He broke a 2-2 deadlock in Friday night's 4-2 victory with less than five minutes to play in regulation, scoring his third game-winning goal of the season. Plevy then followed up on Saturday with his third multi-point game of the year, tallying a goal and two assists, including a helper on the game-winning goal in the 5-3 victory over the Huskies.
With a line of 6-6-12, Plevy is currently tied for first in the nation for goals by freshmen, tied for second in points and third in points per-game (1.33). Among all skaters he ranks 17th national in points per-game and is tied for second with three game-winning goals.
