AMHERST, Mass. - The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) awarded University of Massachusetts short-stick defensive midfielder Ryan Izzo a spot on the organization's all-America listing on Thursday morning. Izzo was tabbed an honorable mention recipient after he provided UMass with 25 groundballs and six caused turnovers during the 2014 season.
Izzo, a 2014 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Region First Team selection, also helped out the attack with four points on two goals and a pair of assists while he started each of the Minutemen's 13 games as a redshirt-junior. The Walpole, Mass., native also helped out UMass on defense as the squad limited foes to 9.69 goals scored per game to go along with a .741 penalty kill percentage, which was tops among CAA institutions.
The honor marks the 135th all-America award issued to a Minuteman by the USILA and the 44th during head coach Greg Cannella's 20 seasons leading the program.
