AMHERST, Mass. - Austin Plevy, a 5-10, 185-pound left-shot forward from Langley, British Columbia, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Massachusetts hockey program, Head Coach John Micheletto announced on Monday. Plevy is the Minutemen's second signee this fall, set to join the squad in 2015-16, part of the Class of 2019.
"He's a tremendous skater with great hands and work ethic," said Micheletto. "We're excited to have Austin Plevy join the Minuteman family. "
As a member of the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League over the past two seasons, Plevy has totaled 70 points over 51 career games on 24 goals and 46 assists, including 37 points (13g, 24a) thus far in 23 games in 2014-15 as the squad's assistant captain. His points total currently leads the entire AJHL, while he is first in the league in points per-game (1.6), as well.
Plevy spent portions of five seasons from 2009-10 to 2013-14 in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League, amassing 174 points (65g, 109a) in 204 career regular season games, most recently as a member of the Chilliwack Chiefs (2012-14).
In 2012-13, Plevy put up 73 points (30g, 43a) in 54 regular season games before logging nine points (6g, 3a) in eight playoff contests while earning a BCHL (Coastal) Second All-Star Team nod. Serving as team captain that season, Plevy led the Chiefs in scoring and was second in the British Columbia Hockey League during the 2012-13 campaign.
Plevy was selected to participate in the BC Best Ever programs both at the U16 and U17 levels. In 2011, he was tapped to play in the Top Prospects game for all of Canadian junior hockey, as well.
