UMass Hockey Adds Forward Kurt Keats

AMHERST, Mass. - Kurt Keats, a 5-8, 170-pound forward out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Massachusetts hockey program, head coach John Micheletto announced on Thursday. Keats will join the Minutemen next fall as a member of the Class of 2019.
"A skilled and tenacious player with great leadership qualities, Kurt will continue to add a winner's DNA to our locker room," said Micheletto.
Keats is in his second season with Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League and has recorded 85 points over 72 career games on 38 goals and 47 assists, including 30 points (19g, 11a) in 21 games thus far this season as the team's assistant captain. He currently leads the squad in goals and is tied for first in points, while ranking fourth in the BCHL in points and points per-game (1.4).
Prior to his time with the Powell River Kings, Keats spent two seasons with the Winnipeg Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and was named to the MJHL All-Rookie Team after posting 45 points on nine goals and 36 assists over 57 regular season contests in 2011-12.
In total over his junior career, Keats has amassed 207 points in 211 games on 71 goals and 136 assists.
Keats has also participated in the World Junior A Challenge on two occasions, serving as captain of Canada West in 2013-14 and leading the squad to a Bronze Medal in the tournament. He also participated in the World Under 17 Hockey Championship in 2011-12 as a member of Canada Western U17.
