AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program used their fall ball schedule to join forces with the Vs. Cancer Foundation and raise funding for the battle against childhood cancer. The fundraising effort culminated in the team's scrimmage with Rutgers men's lacrosse on Saturday, Oct. 11, as the squads combined to raise more than $15,000.
The teams' involvement is part of the 2014-15 Lacrosse Vs. Cancer initiative, which has a goal of raising $100,000 through the combined efforts of collegiate programs from across the country. The initiative has reached 91 percent of its total goal to date. Half of all proceeds will benefit national childhood cancer research and the other half will help kids directly undergoing treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
UMass raised $9,518 in total via donations from 38 fundraisers. More information on UMass Men's Lacrosse Vs. Cancer can be found here.
