AMHERST, Mass. - UMass junior faceoff specialist Joe Calvello and redshirt-sophomore midfielder Ryan Izzo were selected as members of the CAA All-Tournament Team, as announced by the conference on Friday evening. The duo, along with senior Brett Tobin, were integral in winning the faceoff battle against No. 9 Penn State during the semifinal round of the CAA Tournament.
Calvello, a Second Team All-Conference award recipient this season, won 13-of-21 faceoffs (.619 percent) against the Nittany Lions. With Calvello's success against Penn State's Danny Hennegan, the junior improved his season total to 184-of-316 (.582) in his first year as the main faceoff specialist.
Izzo, also a member of the CAA Second Team All-Conference listing, helped Calvello earn possession for the Minutemen with a trio of groundballs on the day to cap the season with 52 scooped up, the second-most on the squad to Calvello's 79. Izzo, who also serves as a defensive midfielder, added one caused turnover during play against the Nittany Lions.
The fourth-seeded Minutemen fell in their semifinal competition with top seed and host Penn State, 10-7 to end the year at 7-8 overall.
