RICHMOND, Va. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse goalie Zachary Oliveri earned his first collegiate honor as the Colonial Athletic Association named the redshirt-freshman its Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Oliveri was instrumental in the neutral-site victory over No. 4 North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 16, with the first-year goalie earning 18 saves in the 12-11 come-from-behind victory.

Oliveri, making his second start for the Minutemen, stopped seven shots during the first quarter before adding four more in the second and three over the third stanza. With UMass entering the final quarter trailing the Tar Heels, 11-8, Oliveri added four more stops as the Minuteman defense held North Carolina scoreless during the final 15 minutes of the contest. Oliveri's final save of the day came as the Tar Heels attempted a last-second shot to send the contest into overtime, with the Ronkonoma, N.Y., native using his body to keep the attempt by UNC's Greg McBride out of the back of the net.

Oliveri shares the weekly honor with Hofstra's Sam Llinares, who recorded five points against Sacred Heart. The last Minuteman to earn rookie of the week was current sophomore Ryan Izzo, who secured the final laurel from last season on April 30, 2012.
