AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey has 21 alumni currently playing professionally around the globe in nine different countries including four former Minutemen in the NHL, two in the AHL and four in the ECHL. Here are a few highlights of recent performances by UMass hockey alumns:
Jon Quick (L.A. Kings, NHL)
- Logged first shutout of the season, a 2-0 win vs. Buffalo (11/7), playing in 300th career NHL game ... Stopped all 19 shots in the contest and was named the game's first star ... Now has 26 career shutouts and is just six shutouts away from Rogie Vachon for the Kings' franchise lead ... Upcoming games: 11/9 (Sat.) vs. Vancouver, 11/12 (Tue.) at Buffalo, 11/14 (Thu.) at New York Islanders.
T.J. Syner (Hershey Bears, AHL)
- Scored the first goal of the game and notched an assist during the 6-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers (11/1) ... Called up to the Hershey Bears (with former Minuteman Casey Wellman) after posting an impressive 2-5-7 stat line in six games with the Reading Royals ... Fought in his first game against agitator Bobby Farnham in the 2-4 loss vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (11/2) ... Upcoming games: 11/9 (Sat.) vs. Bridgeport, 11/10 (Sun.) vs. Binghamton, 11/13 (Wed.) at Charlotte.
Danny Hobbs (Elmira Jackals, ECHL)
- Has participated in all seven games for Elmira helping the squad to a 2-5-0 record ... Recorded an assist and a +2 rating in the 3-0 shutout victory over Greenville (11/1) ... Tallied an assist during the 2-5 loss to Reading (11/2) ... Had another helper in 4-1 loss to Orlando (11/7) ... Upcoming games: 11/8 (Fri.) at Florida (and former Minuteman Rocco Carzo) ... 11/14 (Thu.) at Wheeling.
Mike Marcou (Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL)
- Registered an assist during the 3-5 loss to Wheeling (11/2) ... Greenville is currently 3-5-0 ... Upcoming games: 11/7 (Thu.) vs. South Carolina, 11/8 (Fri.) vs. Gwinnett ... 11/11 (Mon.) at Gwinnett
