Box Score

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The UMass baseball team led 2-0 early, but Saint Louis scored in three straight innings to rally past the Minutemen, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center. With the setback, UMass is now 13-14 on the year and 7-4 in Atlantic 10 action, while Saint Louis moves to 26-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

In the top of the third, redshirt sophomore Ryan Cusick legged out an infield single, before the next batter, Sophomore Kyle Adie, drove a double into center to collect the RBI. Junior Anthony Serino then dropped a single into center that plated Adie, giving the Minutemen a 2-0 advantage.

However in the bottom half of the frame, the Billikens cut the deficit in half. Jerry Mancuso led off with a double to right center and, with two away, Mike Levine drove him in with a double to left center.

In Saint Louis' next trip to the plate, the squad loaded the bases with a pair of hit batters and a single to left by Mike Vigliarolo. Connor Gandossy brought in the tying run in Steve Fernandez with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Billikens scored what would prove to be the deciding run. A pair of singles through the left side by Alex Kelly and Fernandez set up a two-out RBI infield hit by Vigliarolo that gave Saint Louis a 3-2 advantage.

UMass had the potential tying run at second with one out in the top of the ninth, but Travis Parker induced a double play ball off the bat of sophomore Nik Campero to end the threat and collect the save (6).

Senior Glen Misho pitched all eight innings for UMass and allowed three runs on seven hits, taking the loss (1-4). He walked three and struck out three.

Clay Smith picked up the win (5-2) for Saint Louis as he let up two runs on five hits and fanned five in eight innings on the mound.

Serino tallied three of the Minutemen's seven hits in the contest, going 3-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI. Kelly and Vigliarolo both went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Billikens with a run scored and an RBI, respectively.

The teams will decide the series with game three tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
