Massachusetts Baseball Edges Out St. Bonaventure, 9-8

Anthony Tirado goes 3-for-4 on the day with a career-best two homers and a career-high four runs scored.
UMass improved to 14-31-1 overall on the season, including 7-20 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure moved to 18-28 on the year and 9-18 in the league.
Anthony Tirado went 3-for-4 on the day, including a career-high two home runs, while adding a career-best four runs and three RBI. Matt Travisano, Carter Hanson and Michael Toth had two hits each, while Jack Beverly and Zack Zaetta both tallied one apiece. Hanson recorded his seventh home run of the season and had a double. Toth and Beverly also had doubles on the afternoon. Travisano scored two runs for the Minutemen, as Hanson, alongside Tirado, registered three RBI. Beverly contributed two RBI, as well.
UMass scored first in the top of the opening frame to make it a 1-0 game. As Beverly hit into a double play, Tirado crossed the plate from third to put UMass on top.
In the bottom half of the first, St. Bonaventure took a 2-1 lead. The Bonnies added two more runs in the second to pull ahead, 4-1.
With one out in the top of the third, Tirado hit a single, before Travisano followed with a single to left center field. Hanson recorded a three-run homer, marking his sixth of the year, to tie the game up at 4-4.
St. Bonaventure reclaimed the lead at 6-4 with a two-run single in the bottom of the third, before tacking on two runs in the fourth to make it an 8-4 contest.
Massachusetts tallied a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, making it an 8-5 game. A lead off solo home run from Tirado helped the Minutemen back within two in the seventh at 8-6.
After a leadoff single from Zaetta, Tirado registered his second homer of the game and his fourth of the year to drive in two runs to bring the game to an 8-8 tie in the ninth. Travisano came home on a sacrifice fly from Beverly to give UMass a 9-8 lead.
The Minutemen shut down the Bonnies in the bottom of the final frame to come away with a 9-8 victory.
Bobby McDonough (1-2) earned his first win as a Minuteman after tossing 1.2 innings with no runs surrendered, one hit, three walks and two strikeouts. Luke Roggenburk (3-4) had the loss for St. Bonaventure allowing five runs on seven hits, no walks and three strikeouts in four innings.
Massachusetts closes out the regular season with its final A-10 three-game series at Earl Lorden Field against VCU on Thursday, May 15 through Saturday, May 17. Thursday's contest begins at 3 p.m., with Saturday's game starting at 1 p.m. First pitch on Sunday is slated for 12 p.m. for Senior Day.
