Baseball Falters In Game One At St. Bonaventure, 10-1

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts faltered to St. Bonaventure, 10-1, on Friday afternoon at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field.
UMass moved to 13-30-1 overall on the season, including 6-19 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure improved to 17-27 on the year and 8-17 in the league.
Carter Hanson led the team in hits with two, as Matt Travisano, Jack Beverly, Reece McCarthy and Braden Sullivan all had one hit each. Hanson, McCarthy and Sullivan all tallied a double on the day. Sullivan scored the lone run for the Minutemen, while Hanson registered an RBI.
A two-run homer helped St. Bonaventure to an early 2-0 lead in the first.
UMass got on the board in the top of the third to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Sullivan led off the with a double, before Travisano was walked with two outs. Hanson registered his 12th double of the year, driving home Sullivan.
In the bottom half of the third, an RBI triple and an RBI single extended the Bonnies lead to 4-1. St. Bonaventure pulled ahead, 8-1, with a grand slam in the sixth. The Bonnies added two more runs with a two-run long ball in the seventh to lead 10-1.
The final two frames went scoreless as St. Bonaventure held on for a 10-1 win.
Robbie O'Connor (2-8) had the loss for Massachusetts, allowing eight runs on 11 hits, walking one and striking out five in six innings. Chance Moore (2-5) pitched a complete game to secure the win for St. Bonaventure, giving up only one run on six hits, a walk and dealing four strikeouts on the afternoon.
Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure face off for game two on Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
