Brandon Shileikis And Max Weir Named Massachusetts Baseball’s Co-Acting Head Coaches

AMHERST, Mass.Brandon Shileikis and Max Weir have been appointed co-acting head coaches of the University of Massachusetts baseball program following the departure of Matt Reynolds, who has accepted another head coaching position.

"First, I want to thank Matt Reynolds for his tireless work ethic to advance our baseball program since his return to UMass in 2017," Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford said. "Matt has been a great partner and teammate in our department and will certainly be missed. We extend Matt, his wife Alex and their young family our very best wishes for continued success."

"I would like to thank Ryan Bamford for taking a chance on me over eight years ago," Reynolds said. "Having been at UMass as an undergraduate and graduate student, assistant coach and head coach, I can safely say that although I may be leaving UMass, this place will forever be a part of me. As an alum I am so proud of the trajectory of this institution and that of the Athletic Department. I would like to thank our team, alumni and supporters of the program, coaching staff, support staff, administration, colleagues in the department and everyone involved in UMass Athletics for making my time at UMass such an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I look forward to my new role as an alum and fan, and I will forever bleed maroon!"

Shileikis and Weir will transition to acting co-head coaches prior to the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

"I look forward to working closely with our acting co-head coaches and our support staff to ensure a seamless transition for our team as we start the academic year," added Bamford. "Brandon and Max have made considerable contributions to this program the last few years and have displayed great alignment and interest in meeting our programmatic goals: a quality student-athlete experience, success in the classroom and competitiveness on the field."

Shileikis spent the past three seasons with the Minutemen as an assistant coach, while Weir just finished his first season back as an assistant at UMass, having also served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Minutemen for the 2022-23 season.

Shileikis helped the Minutemen earn the No. 6 seed in the A-10 Championships, marking the program's first appearance since 2012. They will now lead UMass into its first season as members of the Mid-American Conference.

Prior to UMass, Shileikis spent one season at Amherst College as an assistant coach, primarily working with the pitching staff. Prior to his time at Amherst College, Shileikis spent spring of 2021 at Roger Williams as the top assistant. He played a key role in the Hawks' 20-win season, serving as the third base coach as well as leading the pitching staff.

Shileikis also served as the head coach of the Niagara Power of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, while splitting time with Amherst College. During the winter of 2020-21, he spent time with Cressey Sports Performance, working under New York Yankees' Director of Player Health and Performance, Eric Cressey.

Shileikis played collegiately at Quinnipiac University, where he was a four-year letterwinner. He made 51 appearances on the mound, including 26 starts during his collegiate career while posting 10 victories and posting a 4.36 ERA.

A native of North Dighton, Massachusetts, Shileikis graduated from Quinnipiac in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in biomedical marketing.

Weir rejoined the Minutemen after serving as associate head coach at Nichols College in 2024, where he helped guide the Bison to a program-record 29 wins, a .324 team batting average and multiple offensive records. Under his leadership, Nichols produced two All-Americans, the CCC Player of the Year and several All-Region and Academic All-District honorees.

Weir previously spent the 2022-23 season at UMass as a volunteer assistant working with catchers and hitters.

Weir also coached at Gardner-Webb and American International College. He was also the head baseball coach and instructor for the Eagles Baseball Club in Easthampton, Massachusetts, where he helped the club capture the program's first ever Western Mass Championship.

Additionally, Weir spent a season with the Boston Red Sox with the Fan and Youth Engagement team, aiding with various public and private events in New England, as well as Fenway Park to enhance fan experience.
