During the 2011-12 season, UMass will be featuring a "Minutewoman of the Game" at home games throughout the year. In addition to being featured on the program card, the Minutewoman of the Game will also be available for an autograph session following the game.
Junior Shakia Robinson is a forward from North Wales, Pa., who is in her third year with the program. Shakia is a double major in Public Health and Legal Studies and hopes to one day become an environmental lawyer.
Shakia or "Shak" as she is often called, chose to come to UMass because of her teammates, citing a desire to surround herself with people who would make her better as an individual. Also, playing in the Atlantic 10 meant many trips back to her hometown of Philadelphia, which would allow her family to see plenty of games without having to travel too far.
Shakia, who chose #15 since she was born on May 15, is the sixth player in program history wear the jersey number. Her favorite part of playing basketball at UMass is the pride of the fans. "They are always there for us and it makes me want to work even harder," she says.
Her favorite thing about UMass is UMass Dining. "There are five dining halls so it's really convenient to grab a bite to eat in between classes and before practice," states Shakia.
Shakia prides herself on her problem solving skills and enjoys making bracelets in her free time.
