Men's Lacrosse Announces Fall Schedule

Amherst, Mass. - The UMass men's lacrosse team has announced its fall schedule which will begin with the annual Alumni Game on Sept. 23 at Garber Field (8 PM). The Minutemen will also be holding a can food drive starting Sept. 7 and running until Oct. 1 to benefit the Hadley Food Pantry. If you would like to donate a canned food or non-perishable food item, please drop by the men's lacrosse office which is Room 280, Boyden Building.
Following the ever-popular Alumni Game, which annually features the return of some of the greatest players in program history, UMass head to the Catamount Classic on Oct. 9 and to a double header day at Rutgers on Oct. 16.
The Catamount Classic will be held at Thayer Academy in Milton, Mass., where the Minutemen will face Vermont at 11:30 a.m. followed by a game against Bryant at 1:30 p.m.
On Oct. 16, UMass will head to Rutgers to face the host Scarlet Knights at 10 a.m. followed by a noon match-up with Maryland.
The Minutemen finished the 2011 campaign with a 10-5 record including a 5-2 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Following a dramatic 10-9 overtime win at Penn State in the CAA Semifinals, UMass closed its season with a tough 9-7 loss at Garber Field to Delaware in the CAA Championship.
UMass returns its top three leading scorers in junior Will Manny (22g, 23a), senior Art Kell (28g, 16a) and senior Anthony Biscardi (20g, 10a). Overall, seven of the Minutemen's top eight scorers will be back for 2012.
Defensively, 2011 starters Tom Celentani, Greg Anderson and Jake Smith all return along with senior goalie Tim McCormack who posted an 8.33 goal-against-average and a .548 save percentage as the goalie of record.
