2011 Schedule Announced For Men's Soccer

AMHERST, Mass. - Three matches against 2010 NCAA tournament teams highlight the 2011 UMass men's soccer schedule, which was announced today. The Minutemen will play eight home games this fall on Rudd Field, along with 11 road contests.
UMass will kick off the 2011 campaign on Friday, Aug. 26, at Delaware at 1 p.m., the first of six straight matches away from Amherst to open the season.
From there, the Minutemen will travel further south to Florida for a pair of games at UCF and Jacksonville on Sept. 2 and 4. The Minutemen handed UCF a 2-1 loss last fall on Rudd Field before the Knights went on to finish the year with a record of 12-4-3 after winning two NCAA Tournament games.
The following weekend, Sept. 9 and 11, UMass will return to New England to play two in Burlington, Vt., against foes from America East--New Hampshire and Vermont. Then to close out the road stint, the Minutemen will play at Harvard under the lights on Friday, Sept. 16.
UMass will open its home slate against Boston University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, while playing host to its fourth and final America East opponent, Hartford, on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
The Minutemen will head north for their final non-conference road match on Saturday, Sept. 24, when the squad will square off against Dartmouth. The Big Green are coming off a 2010 campaign that saw them reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament and finish with a 12-6-1 mark.
UMass will then close out the non-conference portion of the schedule against another 2010 NCAA Tournament participant, Bradley. The defending Missouri Valley Conference champions will visit Rudd Field on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The Minutemen begin Atlantic 10 play at home on the weekend of Oct 7-9, facing Charlotte and Saint Louis on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Up next, UMass is on the road for two straight weekends, first heading to Fordham and La Salle on Oct. 14 and 16, followed by a trip to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure on Oct. 21 and 23.
The Minutemen will then play out the remainder of the regular season in Amherst. George Washington comes to town on Friday, Oct. 28, while UMass will host Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 30.
The following Saturday, Nov. 5, the Minutemen will take on Rhode Island in their regular season finale, squaring off against the Rams at 1 p.m. on Rudd Field.
