Biscardi Leads UMass All-CAA Honorees

RICHMOND, Va. -
UMass junior midfielder Anthony Biscardi was named to the All-CAA Men's Lacrosse First Team on Friday. He was joined on the second team by fellow Minutemen junior defenseman Tom Celentani, sophomore long-stick Ryan Hollenbaugh and sophomore attacker Will Manny. Connor Mooney was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team. Head Coach Greg Cannella was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year along with Penn State's Jeff Tambroni. For Biscardi and Manny, they are being honored as All-CAA selections for the second year in a row.
Cannella led his squad to its second CAA Championships berth in two seasons after finishing with a 4-2 conference mark. Now a five-time conference Coach of the Year honoree (four in the ECAC), Cannella has his team looking for its eighth NCAA berth during his 17-year tenure. Third-seeded UMass hosts No. 4 seed Delaware in the CAA Championship final Saturday, May 7, at 7 p.m. In his 17 years as the head coach at UMass, he has a 149-93 career record and has led UMass to the NCAA Tournament seven times.
Biscardi (Wantagh, N.Y.) was an All-CAA second-team pick in 2010. He is tied with Manny for second on the team in goals with 20 and has 10 assists for 30 points, third on UMass. Biscardi has eight multi-goal games in 2011 including the CAA Semifinal overtime win at Penn State. He scored the game-winner to propel UMass into the CAA Championship.
Celentani (Levittown,N.Y.) has been a force on defense all season. He has started every game for the last two years and has 32 groundballs and 18 caused turnovers this season. He has often drawn the assignment of guarding the opponent's top attackman. In the OT win at Penn State, he keep first-team All-CAA attacker Matt Mackrides off the scoreboard and forced the turnover in overtime that led to Biscardi's winning goal.
Hollenbaugh (Glastonbury, Conn.) has emerged as a standout in his first season as a starter. In 14 games, all starts, Hollnebaugh has 14 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers. He has two goals, including a clutch score in the CAA Semifinal win at Penn State. Hollenbaugh has often guarded the opponent's top midfielder and done so with great success.
Manny (Massapequa, N.Y.) returns to the second team for the second year in a row. He leads UMass in scoring with 42 points on 20 goals -- tied with Biscardi for second on the team and a team-best 22 assists. He has points in 13 of 14 games this season and has racked up four hat tricks, including three in the last six games. He has a career-high four goals on three occasions this season: vs. Hartford, at Towson and vs. Drexel. He ranks third in the CAA in points per game and third in assists.
Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned rookie honors as he has posted 14 goals and two assists for 16 points. He led UMass to the regular-season finale win over Delaware on April 29 with a career-high five goals -- the most by any UMass player in a game this season. Mooney also had multi-goal games vs. Ohio State, Brown and Albany.
UMass will take on Delaware in the CAA Championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m. It will air live on CBS 3 Now TV in Massachusetts.
