Minutemen Close Homestand Against Yale • Looking to stay perfect at home this season, UMass closes out a two-game homestand on Wednesday evening against Yale at 7 p.m. The midweek matchup marks the second straight contest against an ECAC opponent for the Minutemen. • This will be the final game for UMass before headings south to the Florida Everblades Classic for meetings against #16 Cornell and Clarkson/Maine. The Minutemen will not return to the Mullins Center after the Yale game, until Jan. 5 to face Providence. •The Harvard game marks the third-of-five possible meetings (including Clarkson) against an ECAC opponent this season. UMass is 0-1-1 against the ECAC this season, with a 4-2 loss at Quinnipiac, and 4-4 tie against Harvard.
BROADCAST INFORMATION • All games will be broadcast live on the Flagship Station of UMass Athletics, 100.9 FM WRNX, with John Hennessy calling the play-by-play and Brock Hines providing color commentary. The pregame show for both games will begin 30 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Series With Yale • UMass and Yale meet for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, when the Minutemen inched out a 4-3 overtime victory. The all-time series stands at 6-12-0 with the first meeting between the two squads coming back in 1911, marking one of UMass' oldest opponents. A familiar face will greet the Minutemen as former assistant coach Red Gendron now coaches for the Bulldogs.
Next Up: #16 Cornell • UMass and #16 Cornell last played in 2008, when the Big Red ran away with a 5-2 victory over the Minutemen. UMass has notched two victories in the all-time series, with a winning percentage of .313 (2-5-1) against Cornell.
Story Lines: Yale • UMass stopped a three game losing streak with the 4-4 tie against Harvard. Previous to the losing streak, the Minutemen had strung together three straight victories. • Entering the Yale game, UMass is unbeaten in the Mullins Center this season at 4-0-3. • When allowing 4 or more goals this year, UMass is 0-6-1, however, when cutting that to 3-or-fewer, UMass is 4-1-3. • Holding a lead or being tied after 2 periods has also been a good omen for UMass this year as the Minutemen are 4-1-3 (0-6-1 when trailing). • UMass broke a string of three games with under 30 shots in the tie against Harvard and is now 3-2-4 when generating 30+ shots on goal in a game. • Of UMass 15 games this season, only three have been decided by more than two goals (4 ties, 2 by one goal, 6 by 2 goals). • UMass will face former assistant coach Red Gendron on Wednesday vs. Yale - Gendron became an assistant coach for the Bulldogs this past summer. • With 13 assists T.J. Syner is tied for third in the Hockey East in assists this season. Teammate Conor Sheary is tied for seventh with 11. • T.J. Syner has at least one point in 13 of 15 games this season and is tied for fourth in Hockey East scoring. • Danny Hobbs, UMass (Sr., F, Shawville, Quebec) Hobbs played in his 100th career game against Harvard where he scored a goal and added an assist. He had missed 2 of the previous 3 games due to injury. • Steven Guzzo, UMass (R-Fr., F, Oakville, Ontario.) Guzzo had his second career multi-point game vs. Harvard with a goal and an assist. He is now a team-best +8 for the season. • Conor Allen posted 3 goals and 1 assist in the pair of wins over Holy Cross and Northeastern with a +3 rating. He became just the 3rd defenseman in UMass' Division I history to score a hat trick with all three of his goals coming vs. Holy Cross. • Conor Sheary had a four-assist weekend with a career-high three against Holy Cross. His lone assist against Northeastern set-up the game-winning goal. • Kevin Boyle made 33 saves the win over Northeastern. He allowed just 2 goals both of which were on power plays. 15 of his saves came in the first period, while 12 were in the third. • Steve Mastalerz posted his first collegiate win over Holy Cross with 22 saves while helping the penalty kill unit go 4-for-4 as well. He made 30 saves in the loss at UMass Lowell. • The win over then #1 Boston College snapped a 12-game losing skid to the Eagles - the last UMass win coming on Nov. 22, 2008 in the Mullins Center (4-3, OT). • UMass had a season-high 47 shots in the win over Bentley - its most since 48 against Providence on Oct. 31, 2009 • The line of T.J. Syner, Michael Pereira and Danny Hobbs combined for 10 points (4g, 6a) in the win over Bentley. All told for the Bentley/Providence weekend, the trio tallied 16 points (6g, 10a).
