Former Minuteman Werner On U.S. Hockey Select Roster

AMHERST, Mass. - Former UMass winger Stephen Werner has been named to the 2011 U.S. Hockey Men's Select Team Roster for the Deutchland Cup, it was announced today. Werner is part of the 21-man roster that will compete in Munich, Germany this Nov. 11-13.

Werner, who was a member of the U.S. Under-18 Team from 2000-02, played in 143 games over four years at UMass. He totaled 116 points for the Minutemen on 50 goals and 66 assists, including a career-high 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists) as a freshman in 2002-03.

Last season as a member of the Rosenheim Star Bulls of the German Second Bundesliga, Wener saw action in 48 games and was the team's top point-getter with 58 on 19 goals and 39 assists. In 11 playoff games, he totaled 17 assists, five goals and 22 points.

The U.S. Men's Select Team will open the Deutschland Cup on Nov. 11 against Slovakia followed by games against Switzerland and Germany on Nov. 12 and 13.
