#9 UMass Lax Falls At #13 Drexel, 12-6

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first 6:30 of the game, No. 9 UMass allowed No. 13 Drexel to go on a 7-0 run as the Dragons captured a 12-6 win on a hot Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Minutemen (8-5, 2-3 CAA) will be the fourth seed in the CAA Lacrosse Tournament and play at No. 1 seed Towson next Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be carried live on WRNX 100.9 FM.
The Dragons (10-4, 3-2) compiled an 11-2 run bridging from the mid-first quarter through the early fourth quarter to build a lead as large as 11-5 with 11 minutes left in the fourth. Drexel will be the No. 3 seed and play at No. 2 seed Delaware on Wednesday night.
Scott Perri had four goals for Drexel and Kevin Stockel added a pair of tallies.
Will Manny had his 13th multi-point game in as many games during his freshman campaign with a goal and two assists - all in the game's first 6:23. Ryan Liebel had two goals for UMass. Anthony Biscardi had a goal and an assist. UMass' other goals came from Will Jeffery and Ryan Hantverk.
Drexel's 7-0 scoring run over 17 minutes put the Dragons up 7-3 with six minutes left in the first half. The Minutemen stopped the bleeding as Jeffery scored his first of the season on a long-pole dodge. But the Dragons own long-stick scored as Dana Wilber made it 8-4 Drexel at halftime.
UMass jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a trio of goals in just over a three-minute span as Manny, Biscardi and Liebel each scored with 8:37 left in the first quarter. Manny was part of the scoring on all three goals, assisting the second and third goals of the game.
Again, UMass will play at Towson on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., in the CAA Tournament Semifinals. The game will be carried on WRNX 100.9 FM.
